Conducted by the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), ADI’s High-Definition Video Training Series will educate installers in HDTV set-up and professional video calibration techniques. It is being held in 20 cities across the United States.

The course features a full day of hands-on HDTV training. Installers will learn how to optimize display potential, adjust color and contrast for home use, and use calibration tools and color science instruments.

Attendees also will receive promotional discounts from participating manufacturers, and a copy of the ISF Calibration Wizard. Dealers can register online for the training at www.imagingscience.com/adi.cfm.

CMOOR Introduces Preparatory Training for NICET VSS Level 1

Preparatory training that supports NICET VSS Level 1 Certification has been developed by the CMOOR Group. The 14-course series can be taken at the industry training site, SecurityCEU.com.

CMOOR worked closely with video professional Charlie Pierce to develop the program. Because it is the only NICET VSS training program in the industry, CMOOR relied on the expertise of an independent panel to ensure that it met all NICET standards and criteria.

Led by Pierce, the 14-course NICET VSS Level 1 preparatory training program guides students through highly interactive modules that include streaming videos of Pierce’s instruction, animation, simulations and interactivity to form an overview of CCTV as a security tool, while incorporating deterrence methods into video security applications.

Among the topics covered in the program are video design theory, cameras, transmission, digital management systems and the legal aspects of CCTV systems.

CMOOR is also developing NICET Fire Level 1 and Level 2 preparatory training programs, which will be available online in the near future. It also is preparing to launch an IP networking and project management series of courses online at SecurityCEU.com.

For further information about The CMOOR Group’s NICET VSS Level 1 Training, call (502) 254-1590 or visit www.SecurityCEU.com.

Video Term Explained

What does the term “multi-codec” mean in a camera?

“Multi-Codec” has two commonly used meanings:

1. That the CODEC in the network camera can produce simultaneous video streams of different compression technologies or dual-streaming. The most common compression technologies used are Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 (Part 2) video compression.

2. That the CODEC in the network camera will produce either Motion JPEG or MPEG-4 (Part 2) video compression, but not both.

Sidebar: Fuel Cell Recharges Batteries at Remote Locations

A fuel cell system has been developed that can charge remote monitoring equipment such as surveillance cameras and industrial equipment in remote locations. It also can be used with other power sources such as photovoltaic solar panels or wind turbines to provide continuous power over an extended period of time. The VE100 Rack Mount (VE100RM) from Voller Energy Group PLC is aimed at customers with a requirement for constant energy or high uptime equipment in a variety of remote or potentially hostile environments. Historically, most of these applications use batteries, which have to be recharged. The VE100RM fuel cell system recharges them automatically. Using Voller’s own software, the fuel cell system logs and monitors the battery charge. This information can be accessed and monitored remotely via a GPS phone link. The system is powered by hydrogen gas that can be supplied from a normal compressed hydrogen cylinder and regulator available from any compressed gas supplier or from a refillable canister supplied by Voller Energy. This refillable canister stores hydrogen at low pressure dissolved in a metal hydride salt. The unit will automatically awaken from standby mode to charge external batteries when they drop below a preset voltage. For more information, visit www.voller.com.
