ASG Security Acquires Landtronics

By Russ Gager, Senior Editor

Alarm Security Group LLC (ASG Security), Beltsville, Md., has acquired Landtronics Inc., Charlotte, N.C., a security company founded in 1972 by Roger Landis.
"Roger is the quintessential operating COO," says Joe Nuccio, ASG's president and CEO. "He's a great guy who built a nice business that fits in with our core Charlotte branch. It's like the perfect acquisition for us."
Lantronics' 1,600 accounts, $43,000 in recurring monthly revenue (RMR) and nine employees are being integrated into ASG's Charlotte office. The company's customer base is approximately 54 percent commercial and 46 percent residential.
"Roger is retiring," Nuccio explains. "They've run a very good business, customer-focused, with nice core operations that fits in with our existing infrastructure."
ASG is enthused about North Carolina's business climate. "The Charlotte market is one of the best around," Nuccio maintains. "It's not affected by housing because housing has increased there. Charlotte and Raleigh are nice markets -- they have solid, core, long-time customers, and attrition is low in those areas."
Nuccio points out that this is the 42nd acquisition by ASG since 2003, and that the company has grown by approximately 48 percent since November 2007, half through internal sales and half through acquisitions.
"What it does for us is it continues to build our core commercial within that Charlotte branch," Nuccio says of the acquisition. "Before, our branch was a little more residential than commercial -- now we're shifting the mix to be equal.
"We always wanted to be about 50:50 commercial and residential," he says of his entire company. "That's a good mix of business, and today we're fairly close. That's what we continue to do. That's the goal we had from day one."
Rory Russell of Acquisition and Funding Services (AFS), Kattskill Bay, N.Y., represented Landtronics in the acquisition.

Pioneering Your Way into Modern Technology - PSA Security Network Provides the Tools
Did you know that in many ways you are a "pioneer"? The current generation of security systems integrators is the first to venture into the new territory of highly advanced technologies such as Video Analytics. The possibilities are endless for this revolutionary technology. But harnessing its power and channeling it into useful solutions for end users is still a challenging job for the pioneers of the security industry.
Just as the 19th Century pioneers used maps and geographic landmarks to guide them on their way West, today's pioneers can depend on guidance from 21st Century tools such as technology dissertations, Webinars, and expert-driven roundtables.
Recently PSA Security Network facilitated just such a roundtable - a deep discussion with industry leaders to gain a deeper, fuller understanding of video analytics and how they are changing security as we know it. The discussion proved highly educational, revealing just how powerful analytics are and how drastically they will change the security industry, as well as many other industries.
One of the roundtable's participants, Fredrik Nilsson of Axis Communications, explains that, "Video analytics, or intelligent video, is defined as mathematical formulas trying to emulate human vision in an attempt to extract meaningful data from video."
Doug Marman of VideoIQ, another roundtable member, says systems have become "truly plug and play" and "as easy to set up as traditional video motion detection."
Don't miss the opportunity to benefit from this comprehensive exchange of knowledge. PSA Security Network's Video Analytics Roundtable will be presented in full in SDM's July 2008 issue, and will be available to download from PSA's Web site on July 1, at www.psasecurity.com.

From Door to Data
The convergence of physical and logical security has been a favorite topic in the security industry for several years, but its implementation in sign-on systems that use a single card or biometric to access a building and a computer network has been more of a goal than an installation to date.
