Electric Guard Dog, Columbia, S.C., a provider of theft deterring perimeter solutions, was just made the Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest growing private companies for the third consecutive year.

“Jack DeMao, chief executive officer of Electric Guard Dog, told SDM, “We’ve grown partially because of the greater investments we’ve made in many more technicians and integrating cameras, access control, and RFID readers; adding more technology to the fences. The market has also given us greater opportunities.”

The company has been in business for 23 years and its offerings center around offering a crime deterring perimeter solution to commercial customers who store valuable material outside, such as trucking companies, auto auction yards, recycling centers and rental yards, DeMao said. “All of these people have valuable materials outside that are the subject of unrelenting theft.

“What we do is go inside the customer’s property and we establish a 10-foot high electrified fence. We put signs on this fence that say: ‘Warning 7,000 volts’ and it scares the heck out of the bad guys,” DeMao explained.

According to a survey done by Mayfied Assoc., 95 percent of Electric Guard Dog’s customers say the company stopped crime on their site. “These are people that have been having trouble every week,” DeMao shared. “And the crime just goes away because nobody wants to fool with this level of electricity.

According to Eric Schurenberg, editor in chief of Inc. Magazine, this achievement puts Electric Guard Dog in “...an elite group that has over the years included Microsoft, Timberland, Vizio, Intuit, Jamba Juice, Oracle, and Zappos.com.”

A gratified Jack DeMao, chief executive officer of Electric Guard Dog, commented, “We're proud of the team we've assembled. They've been working overtime in a complex economic environment. As more and more cities face economic challenges, more crime, and reduced law enforcement, our people have been there to help, on the ground, assisting commercial companies protect their employees and property.”

According to a recent study, spending on private security is more than 70 percent greater than the total spending on federal, state, and local law enforcement.

In recognition of those statistics, DeMao elaborated, “There's a huge gap we're out there trying to fill, so it's nice to be recognized for the effort.”

Electric Guard Dog will be publicly recognized at the The 32nd Annual Inc. 500|5000 Conference and Awards Ceremony, which will be held October 10-12, 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington D.C.

Electric Guard Dog is a Security Partner for 3,000+ commercial and industrial locations across the nation, protecting businesses, providing a safer work environment for employees, and reducing total security costs.
