NVRs are forecast to account for a growing proportion of video surveillance hardware recording technology shipped. With the continuing trend toward network cameras there is an accompanying move toward the use of NVRs. Global shipments grew from 1.2 million units in 2013 to 3.4 million units in 2014. A major factor was growing demand for low-priced boxed appliance NVRs from Hikvision and Dahua, according to research firm IHS. The average selling price of these NVRs is, in some cases, more than 10 times lower than other boxed appliance NVRs available. As a result, the global average price of NVRs almost halved between 2013 and 2014. High price erosion is forecast to continue to 2019 and this will help drive even greater demand for NVRs.
