Companies Receive DHS SAFETY Act Certification

April 1, 2007

ADT Security Services, Boca Raton, Fla., a unit of Tyco Fire & Security, received full Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act coverage from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its electronic security services.

The designation of ADT’s electronic security services as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology and its certification as an Approved Product of Homeland Security provides liability protection to ADT and its anti-terrorism technology customers in the event of a terrorist act.

Paul Brisgone, director of ADT’s Federal Systems division, noted that ADT’s SAFETY Act designation comes at a time when the federal government is looking toward information technology solutions that emphasize security as well as cost effectiveness.

Passed by Congress as part of the Homeland Security Act, the SAFETY Act provides incentives for the development and deployment of anti-terrorism technologies for homeland security and helps ensure that the threat of liability does not deter the development of technologies that could significantly reduce the risks and effects of a terrorist act.

ADT’s anti-terrorism technologies include access control and credentialing, perimeter monitoring, motion detection, alarm system notification and monitoring, security patrols, video monitoring and recording and automatic fire and smoke detection and monitoring.

In addition to ADT, Adesta LLC, Omaha, Neb., a systems integrator and project management company for communication networks and electronic security systems, earned certification and designation as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology under the SAFETY Act.

As an integrated security solutions company, Adesta designs and installs physical and electronic security solutions for critical infrastructure across the United States. SAFETY Act certification will provide Adesta and its customers with significant liability protections.

The SAFETY Act was created in response to the potentially crushing liability suits that were filed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Congress created the system of liability protections offered by the SAFETY Act as an incentive for companies to buy and sell effective anti-terror goods and services.
