Security Companies Helping Keep Customers' Identity Secure

July 02, 2010
By: Laura Stepanek

Hope you’ve had a chance to read SDM’s June cover story, “The New Security Order,” which centers on the emergence of cyber crime as an opportunity for integrators. “There is an opportunity for innovative security integrators to provide new services around the model of a total security assessment that embraces physical, logical and cyber security best practices,” writes author Dan Dunkel in the article.
The theme of Dan’s story is targeted to businesses, but cyber security is a concern of homeowners, too. News today from APX Alarm, Provo, Utah, ranked No. 6 on the SDM 100, is that it recently sponsored the first annual Fraud College Conference held at Utah Valley University on June 30. “APX Alarm is committed to protecting and securing the futures of families,” said APX Alarm senior vice president of sales, Shawn Brenchley. “The Fraud College Conference is a wonderful opportunity to help educate and provide greater awareness to a growing problem facing all families.”  (http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser?Action=UserDisplayFullDocument&orgId=563&topicId=16408&docId=l:1215369763)

In a similar announcement, SDM reported in its June 24 edition of SDM E-News that Guardian Protection Services, Warrendale, Pa., ranked No. 9 on the SDM 100, plans to offer a comprehensive identity theft protection program to its customers in partnership with Ocenture. Security Networks, West Palm Beach, Fla., No. 18 on the SDM 100, offers its affiliated dealers’ customers an identity protection program called IDnet, through InfoArmor.

It’s encouraging to see these industry giants leading the way into the future by broadening their scope of services to customers, both residential and non-residential. In effect, they are reinventing the security industry.
