System Stops Thefts, Eco-Terrorism at Bureau of Land Management
The GE Interlogix Commercial Group, Corvallis, Ore., announced that the Portland Office of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which is in charge of all IT systems and equipment, is using its Windows-based Diamond II security system. This system protects the Bureau as well as the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers offices also located in the same building.
“Once we moved into our new location, we needed a more robust access control system than our former keypad and codes system,†said Shawn Stanfill, BLM property specialist. “We were having problems with theft as well as demonstrators, who sometimes tried to gain access to the building to protest actions of the Forest Service. Diamond II, in conjunction with Guard Manning and Federal Protective Services, lets us control the area around and near our building. Presently, we are using proximity cards and readers on the front end but will be migrating toward a system using SEIWG standard smart cards. It’s a very efficient system with leading edge technology. As a result, we have the highest, most secured building in the Bureau.
