Among leading-edge access control technologies, smart cards and biometrics receive a lot of attention in the consumer media. Yet among end-user companies that employ access control at their facilities, these two technologies aren’t as widespread as others, such as multi-technology cards/readers and remote monitoring on networks, according to the respondents to an informal online survey of end users conducted by SDM. Part of the reason for this simply may be budgets.
