WISE Advice
Donna Gennett, Ph.D., helped security industry professionals learn how to effectively delegate tasks at a seminar hosted by Women in Security Electronics (WISE) at ASIS International 2005’s 51st Annual Seminar and Exhibits in Orlando in September. WISE is a non-profit professional networking organization focused on promoting women in the security industry through education, mentoring, networking and industry exposure. Gennett’s presentation was based on her published book, If You Want It Done Right, You Don’t Have to Do It Yourself, in which she examines six steps involved in the power of effective delegation. Those include: preparing beforehand; clearly defining the task to be completed; clearly outlining the time frame within which the task must be completed; defining the level of authority to use in accomplishing the task; identifying checkpoints for reviewing the progress; and holding a debriefing session afterwards.
