On May 20, 2013, Alarm.com Inc., Vienna, Va., filed a complaint for patent infringement against Telular Corporation, Chicago, with the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Telular provides products and security services through its Telguard brand.
The official complaint, which called for a jury trial, claimed that Telular used patented technology without permission under three of Alarm.com’s patents, all titled: “System and Method for Connecting Security Systems to a Wireless Device” by making, using, selling and/or offering products — specifically Telguard Interactive and Telguard HomeControl — made “for providing user notifications of alarm system events.” The second and third patents under this name are continuations of the first.
