ISC West 2008: Night Vision Camera Wins New Product Showcase Award

An innovative camera that sees in the dark by sensing short-wave infrared (SWIR) light produced during the day by the sun won the 2008 Security Industry Association New Product Showcase at ISC West last month.

The SWIR light is absorbed by ions in the earth’s upper atmosphere during the day and emitted from all directions at night, thereby producing no shadows because it has no single source. A CMOS sensor in the TriWave camera from NoblePeak Vision Corp., Wakefield, Mass., is specially treated to be sensitive to SWIR light.

“It is truly a breakthrough product,” said Shayne Bates, principal of Security Consulting for Koffel Associates and a 2008 NPS judge, about the camera. “The TriWave camera will change the way we think about cameras and how we use them in a range of facilities and conditions.”
