There are a lot of cameras being introduced at ISC West this year. Many companies are releasing new camera models and entirely new camera lines: high megapixel cameras, infrared cameras, camera domes, mini camera domes, tamper-resistant camera domes, IP-based cameras, analog models with new bells and whistles, hybrid models allowing customers the option of either IP or analog, high-definition cameras, pan-tilt-zoom models, day/night cameras -- and more -- are on display. Everywhere you look there are new cameras to check out.

Some companies, like Mitsubishi and Cisco, are offering a line of cameras for the first time to complement their existing security solutions.

 

“Historically, customers have relied on Mitsubishi for reliable security products and solutions behind the cameras, but now they can find top-of-the-line cameras with us as well,” said Jeff Kiuchi, product specialist, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America Imaging Products.

 

Cisco’s new line of cameras is IP based – and come as part of Cisco’s new venture into the realm of access control. With high-definition and standard-definition offerings, Cisco’s cameras are part of the company’s vision to offer a single unified security product suite to users for use on an IP network.

 

Other companies, such as Panasonic, are expanding their existing camera lines, with ambitious goals for the future.

 

“At Panasonic, we want cameras to see, act, and think like people, said Frank DeFina, president, Panasonic System Solutions Company (PSSA). “The hardest part is the seeing part, because the human eye is amazing. The next toughest part is thinking, followed by acting. That is where we want to get.”

 

Each company has its own focus – its own long-term goal, and each new camera has its own niche and notable features. Coming out of this year’s ISC West, there is no shortage of camera options for the security industry.
