ICx Technologies unveiled the DefendIR-CZ at the
recent ISC West show. The DefendIR-CZ is an affordable, uncooled infrared
camera that is also equipped with continuous-optical-zoom capability. Most
thermal cameras offer a multi-field-of-view or step-zoom. For instance, if it
is necessary to see farther out, the camera operator must step between the
fields of view, causing a temporary loss of the target image. The DefendIR-CZ
has a true, continuous optical zoom, which gives the user the ability to change
fields of vision while keeping the target in focus at all times. The camera
features a 30 mm to 90 mm lens. It mirrors traditional CCD zoom functionality.
