Companies You Should Know - BOLIN Technology

If you haven’t heard of BOLIN Technology, you soon will. BOLIN is a relatively new kid on the U.S. block, but they’ve been in the industry for years, designing and manufacturing high-performance industrial and professional grade integrated PTZ cameras.

In February 2015, BOLIN opened its U.S. office in City of Industry, Calif., to bring its manufacturing to a global market. “We wanted to be in front of the market,” said Kyle Lo, CEO, BOLIN Technology U.S.

Founded in China by Kyle Lo, John Guo and Maggie Kam more than 15 years ago, BOLIN soon grew to more than 150 employees with more than 30 of them dedicated to R&D. Historically, Bolin’s core business has been in developing and supporting OEM/ODM relationships in the domestic market. But as the industry evolved, BOLIN set its sights globally. “With the vision for global presence and in response to market demands for intelligent video solutions, our U.S. presence will allow us to provide support for intelligence-driven PTZ products and solutions to distributors, VARs, systems integrators and end users with our full line of BOLIN Security and BOLIN VCC (Video Conference Camera) lines,” Lo said. With its manufacturing plant in Shenzhen, China, BOLIN’s California location is the only office outside of China.

As an OEM provider, BOLIN didn’t compete with the companies it provided for. The industry is changing, however, Lo said. “As the focus shifts from hardware to software and the industry migrates to open solutions, more companies are willing to use unknown brands if it is a quality product and is the right price.

“There are many security camera manufacturers. We specialize in integrated PTZ cameras, allowing us to have optimal design for performance,” Lo said. While companies can purchase PTZ cameras designed to withstand high-wind, high-moisture environments that are IK10 vandal rated and have one of the highest IP ratings, BOLIN offers all this in one of the highest resolutions available.

Lo said BOLIN was the first company in the U.S. to ship a 4K integrated PTZ camera for video conference room applications (Released in April 2015). At the ASIS event in September, BOLIN introduced two 4K integrated PTZ cameras to security professionals. “Our value is our ability to offer our clients the latest in high definition imaging 4K, customizable outputs, and intelligence-ready integrated PTZ cameras made with quality and competitive pricing,” Lo said.

BOLIN doesn’t focus on PTZ alone, though. “We know fixed cameras; we are a full-house camera manufacturer that specializes in hi-res, 4k, integrated PTZ,” Lo described.

The industries that use and appreciate this technology — traffic control cameras, critical infrastructure, etc. — require industrial-strength design and PTZ motors, he said. “We’ve taken away the image resolution ceiling for PTZ cameras.”

Lo said the HDCCTV industry is primed and accepts HD resolution. “When we talk about 4K with clients, they like PTZ with 4K,” he said. Even if a client is not ready to support 4K, BOLIN cameras can be set at a lower resolution.

Operating globally from California, BOLINis working with clients in Egypt, India and a government-owned railway in Israel.

And as the market moves toward 4K and higher resolution, Lo sees BOLIN poised to grow. “The consumer market has brought in 4K technology with smartphones, drones, etc. — this is our generation. In an industry that is often behind because they can’t always integrate it into the market, we are ready to introduce 4K to the existing environment. Existing manufacturers are bringing out end products that are 4K-ready — converters, recorders, etc. They are bringing out products that allow 4K to stream. And we have the camera.”
