Founder of Security Inc. and industry icon Tom Smith died March 21, 2016, in Bethesda, Md.
 
Smith was originally from Washington. According to his obituary, he returned to the D.C. area after serving in World War II, married his wife Pat and started the security company Security Inc., which was the 1989 SDM Dealer of the Year.
 
Smith was heavily involved in the industry; he was a past president of CSAA, he was named Man of the Year by the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, and he was the 1987 Morris F. Weinstock person of the year. He was also involved with the AICC and the Mid Atlantic Alarm Association.
