And the Winners Are

By Laura Stepanek, Contributing writer
December 1, 2006
Allen Fritts (left) receives the George R. Lippert Memorial Award, and Charlie Darsch receives the 2006 Triton Award. Both men were honored at the security industry's Tri-Association Awards dinner held during ISC East.

Cipriani’s on 23rd Street in New York was the setting for the security industry’s 2006 Tri-Association Awards Dinner, an annual celebration that recognizes outstanding industry accomplishments among professionals from the Security Industry Association (SIA), National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), and Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA). It was held in late October during ISC East.

The theme of the evening – the roaring ‘20s, featuring jazz, flappers, gangsters, and art deco – added sizzling excitement among the dinner guests. Donna Soloway of NAPCO Security Systems Inc., led the team that orchestrated the event.

Charles G. Darsch was presented with the 2006 Triton Award from SIA, NBFAA, and CSAA. Darsch’s career in the security industry began in the 1950s. He owned an alarm installing company, and also worked for distribution and manufacturing companies. Today he is employed with System Sensor, St. Charles, Ill. Darsch is a past president of SIA.

“Charlie is a scholar and a gentleman,” said SIA director David Avritt of SentryNet. “He has been a fixture in this industry for almost four decades and has seen and been a part of its tremendous growth and expansion. He has always supported all three industry organizations and been very attentive to their needs and issues, both through good times and bad. Charlie is by nature helpful and generous, a man that loves his family, his work and this industry.”

SIA presented its highest award, the George R. Lippert Memorial Award, to Allen Fritts of Honeywell Fire Systems Group. This award recognizes a SIA member who has demonstrated long-term service to SIA and to the security industry at large.

Fritts has served on SIA’s board of directors in various capacities over the years, including as president. He was instrumental in building and strengthening SIA’s role in the ISC Expo and Conference. As president, Fritts focused on growing the association’s industry groups, which, according to Sandy Jones of Sandra Jones & Company, “led to more member participation, tangible benefits and invaluable networking.”

He is president of Honeywell Fire Systems, a Honeywell business unit that is comprised of: Notifier, Gamewell-FCI, Fire Lite Alarms, Silent Knight, Honeywell Fire Services Group/ NESCO, and Honeywell Power Products. Fritts also is a firefighter/MRT and an officer for the Durham Volunteer Fire Dept. in Durham, Conn.
