The U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), requested that Monitronics International Inc., Dallas, participate in providing security services for the G8 Summit, which took place in June at Sea Island, Ga. Monitronics provided security systems and 24-hour monitoring of key sites. The G8 Summit brought together world leaders from eight member nations: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Due to the nature of the Summit, the DHS designated it a National Special Security Event, requiring the Secret Service to assume its role as the lead agency for the design and implementation of the operational security plan.

Monitronics designed, installed, and monitored intrusion detection systems for various facilities at the G8 Summit, including those dedicated to the International Media Center and the Multi-Agency Command Center.
