Transition Networks Inc.’s SFP media converter features protocol independent connectivity between fiber optical or copper links that allows users to leverage networking options including fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ESCON, SONET OC-2, OC-12, OC-48 and Fibre Channel. Additions to the company’s SFP pluggable optics include extended distance multimode 1000 Base-SX models, which allow for optical transmission up to 2 km over multimode fiber, as well as multi-rate Fibre Channel 2X models. Fiber Loopback, a new feature found in the Gigabit converter, puts the converter into a special mode that enables the device to loop back the signal from the RX port to the TX port over the fiber for testing and troubleshooting. The converters comply with the multi-source agreement (MSA) and include a digital diagnostic monitoring interface (DMI) that provides real-time information such as transmit power, receive power, bias current and operating temperature.
