In an effort to attract new membership and more accurately represent the services that it provides to members and prospective members the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) announced that it is considering a name change.

In an open letter, NBFAA president Michael Miller said, “Because of our industry's remarkable progress, NBFAA Strategic Planning and Executive Committees and its Board of Directors realize that the words ‘burglar and fire alarm’ describe only a portion of the products and services our members, and the industry as a whole, provide.”

Miller added that the new brand identity is contemporary, helps make a strong case to the public and authorities—including federal and state legislators—and will help grow the association’s membership and influence.

The NBFAA Strategic Planning and Executive Committees as well as the Board of Directors all agreed to recommend the new association name. The Brand Update Task Force proposed the name Electronic Security Association (ESA).

All members of NBFAA will have the opportunity to vote for the name via mail in the next 60 days. An NBFAA-produced audio presentation about the switch is available atwww.alarm.org/av/brandupdate.wmv.
