Genetec announced Stratocast, its video surveillance as a service (VSaaS) solution powered by Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud-computing platform. The solution is designed to meet the needs of small and mid-sized businesses who want a reliable video security solution without the cost and complexity often associated with managing on-premise systems.

Stratocast is currently in beta testing at customer sites worldwide and is scheduled to ship in the spring and will be sold exclusively through Genetec’s channel partners. The solution requires minimum training and setup costs, minimal on-site equipment to maintain and manage, and eliminates the need for dedicated security or IT staff. It will provide users with a high-quality security system while allowing them to focus on their core competencies, Genetec said.

The new solution will support a wide variety of cameras and will provide users with functionalities that include HD video capture, intelligent video management, automatic alerting, video trickling, mobile and remote access to live and recorded video, and the ability to easily add new cameras.

When Stratocast becomes widely available, Genetec promises a 99.5 percent uninterrupted service level, and packages will start at less than $10 per camera.
