The International Security Conference & Exposition (ISC West) returns this April to the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. Described by some as the best security event in the nation, ISC West is expected to attract more than 15,300 security buyers and a total of over 24,300 industry professionals—44 percent of whom do not attend any other security event.

ISC Education is one of the special features at the event. Participants have the chance to further their career and earn CEU credits from UNLV to maintain their professional certifications. ISC Education focuses on new applications for the use of current technology in retail, life safety, and more. In addition, a new Signature Series puts attendees in touch with leaders discussing industry trends, case studies, and standards. Program topics are diverse and include networking/IP: systems design, surveillance, communications; mobile/wireless, access control and enterprise security; smart home; urban security; fire/monitoring, and IT security.

The Urban Security section is tailored to those interested in the future of municipality and urban protection. Categories include perimeter/barrier protection, detection, urban services, city emergency and crisis management, port and cargo, and tactical gear.

For those interested in something that hits closer to home, SmartHome, a newly launched publication from SDM magazine, will provide some answers. Publisher BNP Media will be the official media sponsor of the SmartHome@ISC Event. The featured area will focus on home audio/video, networking/communications, home automation controls and home electrical.

Besides these special exhibition areas, seminars and workshops offer another reason to attend the conference.

ISC West and the Attrition Busters have announced that motivational speakers and business trainers Bob Harris and Harvey Eisenstadt will co-present a solutions challenge role-play workshop at the conference.

“A real hands-on problem-solving workshop of this nature has never before been offered to the industry at large, and is specifically designed by and for the alarm and integration industry,” Harris said. Attendees will role-play to explore effective solutions to many common industry customer challenges. Harris and Eisenstadt invite all attendees to come armed with challenges of their own. On April 2, Bill Brousseau, vice president of Secure Global Solutions’ Network Operations Center (NOC) in Milwaukee, Wis., will present a public seminar on the business risks, needs and solutions for central station network security. Brousseau is a CISSP and has 15 years of data security experience including designing, implementing, and testing data security systems for large corporations and utilities. These new threats can come from anywhere in the world, and have all new methods and tactics; this seminar will help participants design defenses against these new threats. Live demonstrations of the tools and tricks used by hackers will show how vulnerable data can be. These are just two examples of the dozens of seminars and workshops planned for ISC West.
