Select Security Relocates, Completes Major Renovations

Select Security, Lancaster, Pa., announced that its relocation to and renovation of 241 N. Plum Street has been successful. Select Security was able to move its facilities and U.L.-listed central monitoring station seamlessly to ensure uninterrupted monitoring and protection of the homes and businesses it serves.

Thanks to the employees at Caldwell, Heckles and Egan Inc., Lancaster, Pa., coordination of the $1.5M in renovations went smoothly, the company said.

CH&E coordinated the addition of a 1,000 amp electrical service, twin 150KW generators connected to a 600 amp transfer system, an elevator and sprinkler system, and more than 30 tons air conditioning. More than 16,000 sq. ft. of office space was renovated to Class A status, and the renovations were completed with a newly paved parking lot and security fence.

Select Security officially started working at its new facility on October 8, 2007, but for a short time maintained two separate monitoring stations to ensure that its thousands of monitored customers were never without service. Because the company monitors signals from fire and intrusion detection systems, and because of the importance of real-time notification of any alarm signals, it is important that readiness was always maintained.

Patrick Egan started this business in the Greenfield Corporate Center in 1998 and moved to downtown Lancaster in 2003, occupying space in the City Crossings at Prince and Lemon Streets. For two years, Select Security was located at 150 North Queen St. Egan’s former business, Commonwealth Security, was located in the city on East Walnut Street until 1987.

The move brings Select Security to a building rich in history and dating back to the mid-1800s when it was just a two-story brick building known as the Penn Locomotive Works. More recently, it was part of the former A.B. Rote steel company complex, and in 2001 it was acquired by Yale Electric. Select Security now occupies the 42,000-sq.-ft. property.
