San Diego Gas & Electric, which serves 3.4 million California customers, selected Alarm.com for its Reduce Your Use Thermostat Program. The program enables users of Alarm.com's emPower home energy management technology to earn energy saving credits on their utility bills. Because Alarm.com technology enables consumers to remotely monitor and control their thermostat settings through the Alarm.com website and mobile apps, it is considered an “enabling technology” in the SDG&E program and therefore qualifies for a higher program credit.

“Alarm.com is excited to offer our emPower thermostat management users an opportunity to save even more money on their energy bills. The SDG&E program is a valuable initiative that rewards customers who reduce their energy usage when it matters most,” saidAlison Slavin, vice president of Product Management, Alarm.com.

The program is unique because it is a “carrot” program where the customers have the option to participate on designated Reduce Your Use days and earn energy saving credits for doing so. With energy-saving Smart SchedulesTM, mobile apps offering anytime adjustments and activity pattern-based optimization, Alarm.com offers technology designed to reduce energy use while maintaining home comfort levels. Now Alarm.com users can take advantage of another way to reduce energy use and save money by participating in the Reduce Your Use thermostat program.

Through SDG&E’s Reduce Your Use day rewards, most SDG&E residential and small business customers can earn $0.75 for every kilowatt hour (kWh) saved between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on a Reduce Your Use day.  Residential participants who also have Alarm.com’s emPower thermostat solution can sign up for the SDG&E Reduce Your Use Thermostat Program until Oct. 31 and will be eligible to earn up to $1.25 per kilowatt hour (kWh) saved during Reduce Your Use days in 2012.

"For Alarm.com Dealers, Alarm.com’s participation in the SDG&E program represents another opportunity to extend beyond security and differentiate their offerings with new automation and energy management services that deliver tangible cost savings to their customers. This enables the dealer to successfully drive customer adoption of new services and increase customer stickiness to the dealer and their services,” Slavin pointed out.
