Jade Alarm Company, the only independent, locally owned, UL Certified installation and central station monitoring company in the Kansas City region, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Jade Alarm has been serving the Kansas City area since 1969, still under the leadership of President and Founder Joseph M. Pfefer.

Jade Alarm offers security systems, fire and intrusion, as well as electronically controlled door access and video surveillance systems to individuals and businesses throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. Jade Alarm’s Central Station Command Center monitors these systems 24/7 year round.

When asked for his business strategy which has led to 50 years of success, Pfefer said, “Find, hire and keep great people who will take care of our customers.”

Pfefer conceived of the company following an attempted break-in at his parent’s residence in 1969. His hobby was electronics, so he designed and installed his first system in his parents’ home. Shortly thereafter, Pfefer was contacted by a local business that was looking for an intrusion alarm system for its formalwear store, and he landed his first commercial account. The company has operated continuously from 1969 to the present. In 1981, Jade moved into its current location at 7636 Troost Avenue, the former location of Harold’s Formal Wear, Pfefer’s first commercial account.
