Kirk MacDowell, an executive with a 39-year career in the electronic security industry, has been selected as the new chairman of the board for the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC). SIAC is the industry’s liaison with law enforcement for dispatch reduction and alarm management issues. SIAC’s model alarm ordinance, developed in conjunction with national law enforcement leaders, is being adopted nationwide.

“Kirk’s deep knowledge of our industry, paired with his operational and manufacturing background, is invaluable as we face new challenges and opportunities with technology,” said Stan Martin, SIAC executive director. “Kirk’s early career in law enforcement is also invaluable as we continue to work with organizations such as the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Sheriff’s Association.”

“SIAC plays a major role in how our industry is regulated at the local level,” MacDowell said. “Our ability to protect and serve our clients benefits tremendously when we are working in partnership with law enforcement and have a voice in decisions concerning how governments regulate our industry. SIAC has proven to be a highly efficient and effective way to have the industry’s voice at the table when these key decisions are being discussed.”

“We would also like to thank Leo Guthart for his contribution during his tenure as board chairman,” Martin said. “Leo has devoted a great deal of time and energy helping secure the funding necessary to continue our important work.”

In addition to his new role at SIAC, Kirk MacDowell has served on the board of The Monitoring Association and is chairman of the Alarm Industry Research and Education Foundation. Following a long career with leading firms in the industry and as owner of his own electronic security firms, MacDowell is founder and CEO of MacGuard Security Advisors.
