MicroTek Electronics Inc., Lake Forest, Calif., a manufacturer of wireless Ethernet, video, audio and data products, announced on May 8 that it had merged with KBC Networks Inc., a manufacturer of fiber optic transmission equipment for security and industrial control networks.
The deal promises to give both customer groups access to a wider product range and wider markets. The combined company will be branded as KBC Networks with a portfolio of both fiber optic and wireless transmission products designed to link industrial networks and communications systems.

The company plans to build on the success of the two groups within security, intelligent transport, site management and industrial control markets, extending its reach throughout the world.

KBC's product range, which includes the ASFOM series (a range of products that allows customers to choose the exact mix and type of signals), will now add MicroTek's MiniLink series of products to its portfolio. The MiniLink series offers securely encrypted, wireless transmission products for applications where it is not practical or cost-efficient to run cables. So, whether the transmission medium is fiber optic or wireless, KBC Networks is now able to provide the transmission products to suit.

The complete KBC range is fully ruggedized, making the products suitable for the most severe environments, and it is backed by a comprehensive warranty.

David Thomson, president of KBC Networks, said, “The merger is a great strategic step for KBC Networks, allowing us to combine resources and customer bases – plus we have the same approach to continuous product development and customer support. We're looking forward to building KBC Networks into an organization with even greater capabilities.”

Steve Kuntz, president of MicroTek Electronics Inc. explained, “MicroTek Electronics has experienced excellent growth and customer support in the security, surveillance and related industries. While the company has been involved in projects all over the world, the primary market has been North America. This move offers an immediate opportunity to promote MiniLink wireless products into new markets as well as broadening KBC’s existing markets and product offering.”

The U.S. headquarters for KBC Networks will shift to Lake Forest, Calif., and will be headed by Steve Kuntz. David Thomson will be responsible for global manufacturing operations and Iain Deuchars, MD KBC Networks Europe will continue to direct operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
