There are a lot of new technologies and services entering the security industry that affect monitoring. From apps and smartphones to managed access control, personal emergency response (PERS) and live video monitoring, central stations are tasked with making the technologies a valid industry offering.
Ted Stoler, East Central Station manager and assistant vice president for Vector Security, Warrendale, Pa., is the winner of the 2013 CSAA Central Station Excellence Award for Manager of the Year. Stoler has 35 years of security experience under his belt, 19 of which have been spent at Vector.
This year’s Excellence Awards winners showed what is needed to take a central station to the next level day in and day out.

The Eighth Annual CSAA International Central Station Excellence Awards were presented at an awards breakfast during ESX in June. The awards are co-sponsored by the Central Station Alarm Association and SDM.
Central station managers going to Las Vegas for the upcoming ISC West can also earn certification as trainers. The recently-revised SIA-APCO Central Station Operator Instructor (Train the Trainer) Course is scheduled for March 25-28 at the Tuscany Suites and Casino in Las Vegas, with additional sessions throughout the year.
Once a year, the forces of government that most affect our industry converge — and you are invited to attend. The leadership of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the National Sheriffs Association (NSA), International Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA), and Association of Public-Safety Communications Officers (APCO) come together at the CSAA annual meeting to work with the security industry on areas of concern.
