The City of Cincinnati has been ordered to refund potentially more than $3 million to residents and businesses that paid to register their security alarms or paid fees for false alarms.

SDM sat down with David Smail, chief legal officer at ADT, to discuss what deceptive sales practices look like and how to prevent them.

Today, ADT, a provider of monitored security and interactive home and business automation solutions in the United States and Canada, announced it settled a deceptive sales practices lawsuit filed against NorthStar Alarm Services, a Utah-based company, for $3 million.  

SecureNet, a B2B provider of turn key security, smart home and IoT solutions, has won a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Icontrol Networks Inc. in Sept. 2015.
