The company has released EPDs for most of its iCLASS SE door readers and many of its pivCLASS readers, providing a transparent view of the products’ sustainable qualities and environmental repercussions for more informed purchase decisions. An EPD is an independently verified and registered document that communicates information about the lifecycle environmental impact of products. HID Global’s EPDs can be used for public procurement and building assessment activities, and to provide environmental performance validation for such programs as U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Platinum accreditation.

Power Supply Achieves Big Energy Savings
Securitron, an ASSA ABLOY Group brand, received third-party certification for the energy savings attributed to the EcoPower access control power supply. EcoPower is designed to reduce standby power consumption in certain configurations to 8.5 mW (0.0085 W), a 99 percent decrease compared to current linear and switching power supplies. When used with Corbin Russwin and Sargent EcoFlex electrified mortise locks, power consumption of the door opening can be reduced from 12 W or more to 0.3 W. The low power consumption also means that the included battery provides 24 or more hours of backup power. EcoFlex mortise locks received GreenCircle certification, validating reduced energy usage up to 96 percent compared to standard electrified mortise locks.
