Companies You should Know

By Maggie McFadden

Summit Systems Technologies, Vaughan, Canada, was launched in January 2006 as a part of Mircom, a privately held group of companies targeting the life-safety and fire alarm industries in North America.

Summit offers conventional and addressable fire alarm systems and devices, apartment and video intercoms, and phone access systems. The company is focusing on building relationships with independent distributors across North America.

“[Summit] is a part of a privately held company and we sense that there is a need for the privately owned or independent distributor to have a product line dedicated to their needs,” said Rick Falbo, national sales manager for Summit. According to Falbo, the company would like to add smaller regional independent distributors to its customer list.

While Summit already has upwards of 60 distributors with the company, it is looking to add to that number, as well as increase product volume for current distributors, Falbo said.

So far in 2006, Summit is set to release a video intercom product line for higher-end residential and small commercial/industrial applications. The company also plans to release a single loop addressable panel that currently is under the UL-approval process.

Steve Caroselli and Tom Howell of Delta Turnstile Controls, Concord, Calif., wanted to focus on high-quality optical turnstiles for corporate and government lobbies. Caroselli, president, and Howell, CEO, formed Delta, dedicated themselves to two core product lines and haven’t looked back. Mike McGovern joined the company as vice president of sales and marketing. The company sells exclusively through access control dealers and now works with about a dozen dealers, but they are actively recruiting more.

“We’ve booked our first projects and we’re getting a lot of inquiries,” McGovern said. “We set our products apart through an exceptional anti-tailgating technology and a system which allows for a very low occurrence of false alarms,” Caroselli said. “In addition, the small footprint barrier turnstile is quite unique in that it allows for easier retrofitting of existing lobbies where available space can be critical.”

The company isn’t looking to be the biggest in the industry, but it is aiming to be recognized for its quality products. For now, they are focusing on their two product lines, but won’t rule out the possibility of adding more.

Optical turnstiles have seen considerable growth over the last five years, McGovern said, and the company hopes to capitalize on this demand.
