Red Readers will soon feature mobile credential functionality, allowing them to communicate with smartphones via Bluetooth. The Red Readers can be ordered to additionally support high-frequency smartcards and low-frequency communication, offering users the widest possible choice of credentialing options for use with a single device. Red Readers support OSDP protocol as well as Weigand. When wired using OSDP, up to four readers can be daisy-chained along a single controller wire. By eliminating multiple home runs from reader to controller, Red makes installing additional readers for read-in/read-out easy and cost-effective. Unlike other Bluetooth readers on the market, the Red readers do not require any programming or pairing during installation. They are true plug-and-play. An IP55 rating deems them suitable for indoor and outdoor use, including some exposure to precipitation, pollution, and dust. Along with PDK’s other mobile credentialing hardware, Red mobile credentials are issued from within the pdk io software application. System administrators can purchase, issue, and distribute them on the fly without interfacing with any third-party provider. PDK is now accepting orders for Red readers with Bluetooth.
