The Security Industry Association (SIA) has announced the keynote speakers for the 2023 SIA GovSummit, SIA’s annual public policy and government security technology conference. Lee Kair, principal and head of security risk and resilience, federal strategy practices at The Chertoff Group, and the Honorable Scott Shellenberger, state’s attorney for Baltimore County, Md., will headline this year’s conference. SIA GovSummit 2023 is presented by SIA with support from ASIS International and the Secure Technology Alliance and will be held May 16-17 at the National Housing Center in downtown Washington, D.C.

In his role as principal at The Chertoff Group, Kair advises global clients on a broad range of issues, including homeland and transportation security, business strategic planning, and capture strategy for federal contracts. Shellenberger has served as state’s attorney for Baltimore County since 2006 and is a respected leader on policy matters related to public safety and law enforcement technologies in Maryland. Kair and Shellenberger will draw on their experience to deliver dynamic presentations to this year’s GovSummit attendees.

Each year, SIA GovSummit brings together government security leaders with private industry technologists for top-quality information sharing and education on security topics affecting federal, state and local agencies. In addition to the keynote presentations from Kair and Shellenberger, the 2023 GovSummit program includes specialized sessions on essential topics in contracting, procurement, infrastructure and facility protection; highlights how security product standards help meet government needs; and explores the latest policies, practices and trends impacting security. Discussion topics include:

  • Making a business case for obtaining infrastructure security funding
  • The new era of biometrics for the government sector
  • Futureproofing against cyber-physical threats to government
  • Artificial intelligence and physical security
  • Preventing school violence and improving K-12 school security
