Pennsylvania School District Models Proactive Campus Safety With New Emergency Camera Sharing

The New Kensington Arnold School District (NKASD) in Pennsylvania has overhauled its security infrastructure, implementing 911 Camera Sharing to strengthen campus safety and enable faster emergency response.

In the event of an emergency anywhere within the district, the local 911 Dispatch Center can now access live video feeds from school security cameras in real time. This immediate visibility provides first responders with critical situational awareness, improving emergency response times and decision-making as incidents unfold. The technology enhances protection for students and staff while providing added reassurance to parents and the broader community.

“This is a game changer for emergency services,” said Gene Good, 911 operations chief, Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety. “When a 911 call comes in near the school, dispatchers automatically receive a prompt that there’s a camera, and can immediately see what’s happening on the ground. This is a key component in providing safe schools.”

Jon Banko, principal, Valley Junior-Senior High School in New Kensington, added, “The safety of our students is our top priority. We want parents to feel confident that we are providing a safe and healthy environment for learning.”

The comprehensive security system upgrade was a collaborative effort with local security integration firm 2Krew Security & Surveillance, the NKASD administration, IT director, school resource officer, and the New Kensington Arnold Police Department. The district benefits from  Brivo’s unified door access control and video surveillance, proactive detection of illegal vaping while protecting student privacy, and the assurance that 911 Camera Sharing is in place in case of an emergency.

Brian Kozlosky, president, 2Krew Security & Surveillance, collaborated with Brautigam, school officials and local law enforcement to design and implement the system.

“In partnership with Brivo, we installed cloud-native access control to secure all school access points across the district, we incorporated video surveillance, vaping and other environmental sensors,” Kozlosky said. “With the addition of 911 Camera Sharing, we have a unified, scalable, future-proof system in place for the community.”

Dean Drako, CEO, Brivo, concluded, “The NKASD project is a fitting model for proactive campus safety that cloud-native AI-driven physical security can deliver. This project clearly illustrates why successful security integrators like 2Krew prioritize close collaboration with the customer, community members and manufacturer partners to design the ideal system to help the school district achieve its objectives.”
