In Memoriam: Jerry D. Howe

Jerry Dalphus Howe, a visionary entrepreneur, devoted family man, proud veteran and founder of SDM’s 2023 Dealer of the Year, Peak Alarm, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at 83 years old. He passed from advanced age and complications related to dementia/Alzheimer’s.
Howe was born on May 1, 1943, in Aransas Pass, Texas. His life was defined by a tireless work ethic and a deep commitment to service. In 1961, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving with distinction aboard the USS Midway.

Shortly after his military service, Jerry married Sylvia Gayle Bruerton, with whom he would go on to found Peak Alarm Company Inc.
Under Howe’s leadership, Peak Alarm grew from a local startup into a large, multi-regional security company, providing safety and peace of mind to thousands. At its height, his company employed nearly 500 people across Utah, Idaho and Colorado.
Beyond his professional success, Howe was a man of faith and community. He was an active member of the LDS church and spent many years mentoring young men as a dedicated Scout Leader.
Howe’s family will be holding private funeral services to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, his loved one ask those who wish to consider making a donation to Alzheimer’s charities in his memory.
Jerry D. Howe leaves behind a legacy of security, growth and family. He will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit and his service to his country.
