Chicago PD Considering Pilot Program With Ring Doorbell Owners
A Chicago Police Department (CPD) spokesperson said the department would soon announce a pilot program in which it will join forces with video doorbell maker Ring, potentially giving police access to thousands of residential cameras in Chicago, according to an article published by the Chicago Sun Times on September 18.
The article stated that, should the program become official, CPD would be the largest police department in the United States to connect with Ring, adding that more than 400 other U.S. police departments are already partnering with the Amazon company.
The Chicago Sun Times article goes on to discuss the issue of privacy, citing experts from the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois and Northwestern University.
