SDM 100 Brand Report: The Most Popular Brands Among the SDM 100 Companies

Which suppliers do the largest security dealers use? This SDM 100 brand-usage report details the manufacturers and distributors that earn their business.

Around the country in every major metropolitan market is an SDM 100 company that worked long and hard to get where it is today. These are the 100 largest U.S.-based security companies — as ranked by their recurring monthly revenue (RMR) — on the annual SDM 100 Report. They serve an array of market segments from residential to commercial, from institutional to government.

Security dealers ranked on the SDM 100 were asked to name their top three manufacturers in order of volume purchased from them. Their answers were compiled, and companies were ranked in order of how frequently they were cited. The top 10 vendors are presented here.

As diverse as their customer base is their supplier base, providing SDM 100 companies with a broad range of solutions for every application. So, which manufacturers and distributors are behind the SDM 100, supporting them with the products and services that make them successful?

SDM asked each of the 2020 SDM 100 companies to divulge their top three manufacturers and top three distributors, based on volume purchased. The resulting lists (shown at right) reveal that the largest security companies in the installation and monitoring channel rely on a wide variety of suppliers, the vast majority of which aren’t even listed here.

Security dealers ranked on the SDM 100 were asked to name their top three distributors in order of volume purchased from them. Their answers were compiled, and companies were ranked in order of how frequently they were cited. The top six distributors are presented here.

These brand-usage lists were compiled from the 2020 SDM 100 Report. Of the 100 companies ranked, 84 of them listed their suppliers. SDM combined all of their responses, and ranked the manufacturers and distributors by the number of mentions each received. After the top 10 manufacturers and top six distributors, mentions were distributed fairly equally among a broad number of other suppliers.
