The Z-Wave Alliance, a standards organization dedicated to developing and advancing the Z-Wave wireless smart home protocol, announced that ADT, a provider of security, automation and smart home solutions serving consumers and businesses, has joined the Z-Wave Alliance as a new principal member, granting them a seat on the Board of Directors.

In August 2020, the Z-Wave Alliance announced its incorporation as an independent non-profit standards development organization, including new levels of membership, organizational structure and member-driven support. As the newest Principal Member of the Z-Wave Alliance, ADT joins Alarm.com, Assa Abloy, Leedarson, Ring, Silicon Labs, StratIS, and Qolsys in advancing Z-Wave technology.

“As a principal member of the Z-Wave Alliance, ADT will collaborate with other smart home industry innovators to advance standards that create helpful user experiences and are rooted in security and privacy,” said Raya Sevilla, senior vice president of product at ADT. “ADT has a longstanding history of contributing to smart home security standards development, and we’re eager to continue that tradition within the newly organized Z-Wave Alliance.”

Mitch Klein, executive director for the Z-Wave Alliance, reiterated ADT’s support for the alliance and promoting the standard in the industry.

“The Z-Wave Alliance has stood as an IoT and smart home industry leader for over a decade and our transition into a fully ratified standards development organization has progressed both rapidly and with monumental contribution and support from our members,” Klein said. “Through the years, ADT has supported the Z-Wave Alliance and championed Z-Wave technology in the security market. We’re thrilled to have them on board as a Principal Board Member under the new SDO.”
