The Bend Bar — the latest project from Trophy Brewing — is using SONITROL CORE to monitor and alert the team to intrusion based on impact-activated audio detection.

Situated within three historic houses in downtown Raleigh, N.C., The Bend Bar aims to be a neighborhood focal point with a 16-seat curved communal table, spacious indoor bar area, sprawling patio and extensive back yard area. Alongside The Bend Bar, there is a bottle shop and restaurant called State of Beer, with a third concept under development.

The team was familiar with SONITROL as its solutions were installed in other Trophy Brewing locations. So when it needed an audio intrusion detection solution, SONITROL was a natural fit.

The Bend Bar and State of Beer location needed to be monitored 24/7 to protect valuable equipment and stock on-site while also detecting and confirming potential intrusion before law enforcement is alerted. In Raleigh, every unnecessary police call-out after the second false alarm will cost the business an exponentially increasing fine, so a solution was needed to prevent this.

The location and historic importance of the site added extra challenges in installing the solution to fit the buildings’ aesthetic, and also securing a large outdoor space that is open to the public street. A railway track is situated towards the back of the site, causing high pedestrian footfall. The outdoor space can accommodate up to 400 people, and the indoor bar can serve up to 45 customers.

The State of Beer shop on-site is open from mid-morning until evening, with The Bend Bar being open from afternoon to midnight. Customers’ access to areas outside of opening times needed to be restricted, preventing people from entering the staff and stockroom areas.

The team wanted a way to remotely get audio alerts so that owners Chris, David and Woody don’t need to be on-site during the long operating hours and could focus on growing the business instead. Suppliers needed to be able to access the site at a suitable time, which could be early in the morning or late at night when the site had closed and staff were at home.

An audio sensor and keypad were installed with alerts and actions accessed via the SONITROL Management mobile app. SONITROL CORE provides 24/7 audio intrusion detection and monitoring, accessible remotely via the dedicated Management app. This advanced security solution helps reduce false alarms and unnecessary police call-outs, minimizing the risk of fines from law enforcement due to excessive responses.

The Management mobile app allows multiple users to access and disarm alarms, making it easier to manage supplier entry and exit. It also enables monitoring of keyholder activity to ensure sites are opened and closed on schedule, and that buildings are properly secured after hours.
