March Networks, Ottawa, Ontario, announced that Union Pacific Railroad (UP) has selected Wabtec VideoTrax, powered by March Networks, for mobile digital video surveillance across their fleet of locomotives.

In North America, UP has more than 7,000 locomotives and 87,000 freight cars. VideoTrax, a March Networks locomotive digital video recorder, will be used by UP to capture and monitor video of tracks that are traveled and the surroundings of those tracks. UP also will use Wabtec’s VideoTrax to capture audio, such as horns and bells, and locomotive data, such as brake and throttle usage, in conjunction with the video capture.

“The combination of video, audio, and event data is important in assisting our customers with enhancing safety and improving operations,” said Robert Haag, vice president of programs for Wabtec Railway Electronics. “The March Networks mobile video solution complements Wabtec’s on-board solutions to meet our customer’s specifications.”
