Without the analog networks, today’s approximately one million fixed devices that use AMPS could hit a giant alarm transmission roadblock.
One popular AMPS alternative, however, is Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication, which is one of the world’s most popular mobile phone standards. According to the GSM Association, more than two billion people globally used GSM phones as of 2006. Transmitting signals through GSM gives security alarms high priority on the cellular network, making it more reliable. Because it’s a wireless technology, the GSM alarm radio also can be a viable backup solution for homes that use traditional phone lines.
