An extensive portfolio of “connected home” solutions and technologies focuses on a refresh of Honeywell’s Total Connect Web interface. The advances center on remote services, support for Z-Wave-enabled thermostat and lighting controls, and integration with Control4 home automation systems.

Other new technologies include enhanced aesthetics and common graphical interfaces for Honeywell’s LYNX self-contained and VISTA hybrid security systems, as well as interoperability with smart meters using ZigBee technology. Check elsewhere in this smartHOME online issue for an expanded story on home area networks, which covers the Internet, ZigBee, Z-Wave and other approaches.

“The rise of mobile apps, IP video, and open standards for home automation, creates tremendous opportunities for the security industry to enrich and broaden the appeal of its offering to tens of millions of homeowners,” says Jonathan Klinger, vice president of marketing for Honeywell Security & Communications, Melville, N.Y. “Honeywell’s connected-home solutions will enable dealers to increase close rates, increase content per sale, increase recurring monthly revenue and reduce attrition.”

Other “connected home” products which were on display at ISC West included:

  • The LYNX Touch wireless control panel is the latest series of Honeywell’s self-contained intrusion systems. With its 4.7-inch color touchscreen display, it provides both end users and installers very simple, intuitive user icons to navigate from user to programming screens.
  • The 6280 Series of Graphical Keypads provide the latest Honeywell graphic user interface, sharing the same icons as the LYNX and Total Connect interfaces. Like the LYNX Touch, variants of the new 6280 Series support the Z-Wave protocol to provide homeowners control of the security, lighting, door, shades and HVAC systems.
  • The 5800ZBRIDGE is a small, easy-to-install device that lets end users set back thermostats and turn off lights when arming LYNX Touch and new VISTA Series systems. This allows dealers to offer an automated way for homeowners to save energy and money when using their security systems.
