In a “town hall meeting” held yesterday morning, Axis Communications introduced several new solutions that it said will change how cities secure their citizens, property and assets.

“People choose a city based on a number of factors, such as livability, efficiency of services, mobility, safety and security, economic growth and city image, reputation, and sustainability,” said Fredrik Nilsson, Vice President, Americas. “As an industry we can help cities to be smarter and safer,” he said.

Nilsson shared how a few cities have recently worked with Axis to improve factors such as safety, security and sustainability, including the city of Vicente López in Argentina, which has installed more than 800 high-technology cameras in government buildings, along public roads, in mass transit – as well as in patrol cars – to create a secure environment for citizens. Outdated analog equipment was replaced with an installation of 650 high-technology cameras for city surveillance, consisting of fixed and PTZ dome-style models.

“Other things that are important to a city and its citizens includes waste management that also promotes livability,” Nilsson said. “We increasingly see cities that want a sustainability policy in project bids, and we are happy to do that. We are doing our part to raise the bar and to make solutions that are more sustainable.”

One application is the city of New Orleans, La. that employed an Axis D2050 VE network radar detector that connected to PTZ cameras to catch and deter people from dumping trash in alleys and deserted areas.

All cities need to employ traffic management solutions, Nilsson added, as traffic can affect a city’s economy and add to carbon emissions. “We have been working with the city of Atlanta and a small city in France to employ smarter video surveillance to help city officials control traffic, to assist with pedestrian detection, and to help people save time.”

New Axis products introduced at the breakfast and at Booth #14051 include:

  • AXIS P3719-PLE Network Camera: a multidirectional, four channel camera that features Quad HD resolution and a 30 FPS framerate and can provide 24/7, 360-degree coverage. This camera is highly cost effective, essentially providing the benefits of four cameras in one.
  • AXIS C8210 Network Audio Amplifier: makes migration from traditional to network audio systems smart and easy by enabling any passive speaker to benefit from the same feature set as Axis network speakers.
  • AXIS Q6215-LE PTZ Network Camera: a heavy-duty PTZ camera with built-in IR illumination that comes with a half-inch sensor and combines high-quality imaging with fast pan, tilt, and zoom functionalities.
  • AXIS A8207-VE Network Video Door Station: an upgraded door station that combines access control, two-way audio capabilities, and a 6 MP security camera in a single device.
