Mission 500, a nonprofit, charitable organization that works closely with the security industry to serve children and families in need across the U.S., teamed up with ISC West during its online show earlier this month to stage a virtual 5K/2K Run/Walk. The virtual race raised $75,000 in donations, which will be used to provide relief to children and families across the country.

“2020 has proven to be a difficult year for businesses, their families and especially for scores of less fortunate children and families who were already in need of support prior to the pandemic,” said Ken Gould, chairman of Mission 500. “With ISC West 2020’s shift from a live to a virtual event, Mission 500 also transformed our annual Security 500 5K/2K Run/Walk into a virtual event. The tremendous support of longstanding partners, sponsors and attendees made this virtual event an overwhelming success, and we are most grateful for their collective efforts and desire to help those in need during these most trying times.”

With participants running and walking on their own across the country, all event times were submitted on the honor system. Results are as follows: In the under sixty category, this year’s fastest female was Karen Salerno of ISC Security Events with a time of 19:55. The fastest male was Pat Heffernan of Axis Communications with a time of 22:54. Complete race times can be found at: https://runsignup.com/Race/Results/82008#resultSetId-209485;perpage:100

The top fundraiser was Ronnie Pennington of Altronix collecting $3,390, followed by Heather Miller of Anixter who raised $1,200, and Jason Klein of Ditek who raised $760.

Mission 500 acknowledged medal winners and sponsors at a virtual Security 5K/2K awards ceremony held online on Oct. 7, where the organization also honored George Fletcher with its annual Humanitarian Award as well as, ADT who received Mission500’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award.
