Sony Electronics is now shipping its W series and X series 2014 TVs with Control4® Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP) technology from Control4 Corporation, Salt Lake City, a provider of automation and control solutions for the connected home. The integration makes Sony the first HD and 4K Ultra HD television manufacturer to ship a full line of automation-ready televisions for consumers worldwide.

“Overcoming the complexity of intelligently and automatically integrating a broad set of disparate devices within the connected home is an industry challenge and opportunity,” said Control4 Chairman and CEO Martin Plaehn. “A growing number of leading consumer product brands, including Sony, are leveraging Control4 SDDP software technology to address this challenge and adding high-demand home automation interoperability to their product lines. The expanding adoption of SDDP by over 100 brands already provides a very broad range of automation-ready products for the connected home — and interest continues to grow.”

“Sony strongly believes in the benefits of the smart and connected home, and we are thrilled that our 2014 line of 4K Ultra HD and Full HD TVs will join a growing list of Sony products that can integrate into a Control4 automation installation,” said Michael Fasulo, president and COO of Sony Electronics. “Making our 4K Ultra HD and Full HD products home automation-ready via Control4 SDDP now provides our customers with a great connected-home experience.”

The W series and X series Sony TVs, including Full HD and 4K Ultra HD series, ranging in size from 40” to 85”, are all Control4 SDDP enabled from the factory. Sony is the market share leader in 4K Ultra HD TVs, 4K projectors, and Home Theater AV receivers.

In addition to the products already shipping with SDDP technology, Control4 recently entered into new SDDP license agreements with additional brands, including Bang & Olufsen, Bose, Fusion, Meridian, Panasonic, and Siedel. Control4 will be working closely with these and other new SDDP licensees as they integrate SDDP into their respective connected-devices and submit them to Control4 for SDDP Certification in the coming weeks and months.
