LOUD Security Acquires Alarm Associates

By Tim A. Scally
July 1, 2015
On June 24, 2015, LOUD Security completed its acquisition of Alarm Associates. The deal has been months in the making and will bring LOUD Security’s RMR up to $210,000 and their monitored customers up to 8,000.

Alarm Associates Inc. of Atlanta, Ga., has long been a family business. For almost 30 years, Tom Johnson and his wife, Dawn, have operated Alarm Associates Inc. They have prided themselves in treating customers like their family. “We had plenty of opportunities to sell,” said Tom. “But I was looking for the company that would be right for my customers.” He found it in LOUD Security Systems of Kennesaw, Ga.

John Loud, president of LOUD Security said in an interview with SDM, “It was a great fit. Alarm Associates and LOUD had a very similar breakdown of residential to commercial customers, we both use a great deal of Honeywell equipment, and Alarm Associates had low attrition. They kept impeccably organized files, and although this has been one of our biggest acquisitions, it has also been one of our cleanest.”

According to Loud, Johnson and most of his employees are retiring, although Johnson will still be involved with sales, and LOUD picked up one installation technician.  “We’re proud to bring Alarm Associates and its 1,200 customers into the LOUD Security family,” said Loud. “We know very well that Tom could have chosen any one of several other companies, but he made a statement by choosing us.”

Johnson said he had a number of opportunities to sell Alarm Associates to other suitors. “I chose LOUD for two reasons: they have great customer service and they have a lot of technicians on the street.”

Johnson said he was also impressed that John Loud is both an alarm technician and a company owner.

Customers of Alarm Associates will now be customers of LOUD Security, and Loud said they stand only to benefit. “LOUD will offer [former Alarm Associates customers] interactive opportunities, online bill paying and larger service plan opportunities — all with no rate increase. Also, while Alarm Associates had six employees, LOUD has 60 and can afford them great customer service and attention.”

The merger was administered by Steve Rubin of Davis Mergers and Acquisitions Group for Alarm Associates and John Colehower of Mergers and Acquisitions LLC for LOUD, and Loud attributes much of the smooth transition to having a great team facilitating the acquisition.

Having secured a substantial line of credit, LOUD Security has several potential opportunities and is seeking more additions in the Atlanta area, according to Loud.

LOUD Security was founded in 1995 and has more than 60 employees. The Atlanta Business Chronicle ranks LOUD Security Systems Inc. the sixth largest security company in the Atlanta metro area as measured by the number of monitored assets. They celebrated their 20th anniversary June 27.
