Habitec Security, the largest privately held security company in Ohio and headquartered in Toledo, acquired Bigelow Security, headquartered in Sylvania, Ohio.

According to John Smythe, president, Habitec Security, Habitec acquired 500 accounts in the acquisition.

“Bigelow Security has an excellent reputation in our community which made it a perfect fit for Habitec,” said Smythe. “Our team welcomes Bigelow Security customers to Habitec Security and we will work hard to make sure that it is a seamless transition. With a proven track record for over 40 years, Bigelow customers can be reassured that we will be here today, tomorrow and in the future to provide exceptional security solutions to our customers.”

The Bigelow Security name will transition to Habitec Security, and Jim Bigelow, the founder of Bigelow Security, will join Habitec as an independent security consultant. “Habitec Security is a good fit for our customers and I am pleased to join the team to continue to help with the success of Habitec,” said Jim Bigelow.

According to Smythe, Bigelow is very entrepreneurial and wanted to start a business unrelated to security.

Part of what made the acquisition such a good fit, said Smythe, was that Bigelow adds a great customer base located directly in Habitec’s footprint. “Bigelow worked with many custom builders in northwest Ohio, and we hope to maintain and grow those relationships. Bigelow Security’s customers will benefit from our extensive product and service offering as well as our local monitoring service.”
