The world is rife with apocalyptic predictions. Johannes Stöffler, a respected 16th century German mathematician and astrologer, predicted that a great flood would cover the earth on February 25, 1524.

As 2019 begins, it is important for leaders in the security industry to pause and take time to reflect on the last year: How has the industry evolved over the last 12 months in regards to technology, solutions and services? What trends and changes should we expect to see this year?

Google Nest has become a trending topic this week as multiple users have reported security breaches. On Tuesday, Q13 FOX reported that a family in Auburn, Wash. claimed that someone hacked their Nest and was watching them and speaking through the cameras. On Sunday, a Northern California family’s Nest issued a fake emergency warning claiming that three nuclear missiles from North Korea were headed for Los Angeles, Chicago and Ohio, according to the East Bay times.

Once again nearly 20,000 professionals zealous about audio, video, smart home technologies, and electronics in general, converged September 6-8, at the San Diego Convention Center for CEDIA Expo 2018 .
