The 2023 SDM 100 Companies’ Brands of Choice

Which manufacturers and distributors do the largest security dealers use? This SDM 100 brand-usage report details the top providers that earned their business in 2022.

Last year was one of many challenges for security dealers, including the 100 largest North American security companies ranked by their 2022 recurring monthly revenue (RMR) on the annual SDM 100 Report. Battered by supply chain woes, difficult-to-predict pricing and labor shortages, having a trusted supplier — in some cases more or different ones than in previous years — was critical to their success.

SDM asked each of the 2023 SDM 100 companies to share their top three manufacturers and top three distributors, based on volume purchased. The resulting lists featured here represent the wide variety of suppliers security companies in the installation and monitoring channel rely on to complete their projects.

These brand-usage lists were compiled from the 2023 SDM 100 Report. Out of the 100 companies ranked, 83 of them listed their manufacturing partners and 81 shared their distributor partners. SDM combined all of their responses, and ranked the manufacturers and distributors by the number of mentions each received. Beyond the top 9 manufacturers and top 7 distributors listed in order, mentions were distributed among a number of other suppliers.

Stanley Security (includes the brands of Sonitrol and 3xLogic)

Carrier (includes the brands of UTC, LenelS2 and Edwards/Kidde Commercial )

Security dealers ranked on the SDM 100 were asked to name their top three manufacturers in order of volume purchased from them. Their answers were compiled, and companies were ranked in order of how frequently they were cited. The top 9 reported vendors are presented here, after which there was a five-way tie between Axis, Brivo/Eagle Eye, Genetec, Digital Watchdog and Nortek Control, followed by mentions for a number of other providers.
