As part of Operation Bosslift, employers of National Guard and Reserve members were transported in a military KC-135 refueling aircraft to Langley Air Force Base to observe them on duty.

Wayne Torrens, president of Micro Key Software, Kissimmee, Fla., along with 34 other employers flew on the aircraft. The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s program, operated by the Department of Defense, allows employers of reservists to see the type of training and activities their employees undergo.

Participants stayed overnight in bachelor officers’ housing at Oceana Air Station. Employers sat in on a briefing and took a trip to the assault craft unit four headquarters. The group also boarded the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier the USS Harry Truman.

The trip culminated in a dinner with senior military officials, at which Torrens received the Patriot award for support of the guard and reserves on behalf of the Department of Defense.
