SDM has extended the deadline to July 7 for companies to apply to become the 2017 SDM Dealer of the Year, an annual recognition of companies that demonstrate unmistakable success, a high level of innovation, the use of industry best practices, and notable growth and accomplishments in the security dealer industry.

In a Security Industry Association (SIA) blog, Daniel Conway, communications and outreach manager, DHS Science & Technology (S&T) directorate, reported that the Department of Homeland Security developed a close working relationship with the security industry, stating that the relationships help ensure the research and development investments DHS S&T makes today can withstand tomorrow's challenges.

Eagle Eye Networks Inc. has acquired Panasonic Cloud Management Services Europe B.V. (PCMSEU), makers of Panasonic CameraManager and Panasonic Nubo. PCMSEU operated the largest number of cloud recorded cameras in Europe.

A federal appeals court ruled on June 5 that Rothschild Connected Devices Innovations LLC (RCDI) must pay legal fees to security dealer ADS, ranked No. 20 on the SDM 100 and SDM’s 2014 Dealer of the Year, overturning an eastern Texas district court decision that had sided with RCDI in a patent infringement case. 

An article on Slate.com said that police in South Wales have been the first in the UK to use automatic facial recognition (AFR) technology to identify and arrest a suspect on May 31.

Per Mar Security Services, a provider of total security solutions for residential and commercial clients based in Davenport, Iowa, was named the 2016 Salient Regional Dealer of the Year for the Midwest Region. This award recognizes the top dealer in the Midwest Region who sells more than $500,000 in equipment. Per Mar was also named a Diamond Level Dealer with Salient for selling over $500,000 in equipment. Only a few Salient dealers reach Diamond Level Dealer status, the company reported in a press release. 
 

Wherever you turn today — whether as a consumer, employee, bank patron or business owner — it is almost impossible to avoid using an “app.” You can pay on your phone using an app, deposit a check, play Candy Crush or Words with Friends, purchase items from Amazon and watch videos, to name just a tiny fraction of the more than two million apps available on either Android or iPhone.

Raising outside funding can give security dealers the boost they need to bring on new accounts, thereby generating escalating recurring monthly revenue.
